When you receive a traffic ticket, there are two major consequences besides the fines and court costs. Most traffic tickets carry points. If you collect too many points, you may lose your licence. The other major concern is your car insurance. A single moving violation could increase your rates by up to 50 percent for 3 years. In certain cases, your insurance company will cancel you. In almost every situation, we can help you to avoid those consequences. Our success rate is extremely high and we will only take your case if we expect a favorable result.
Your license can be suspended for a number of reasons.
Some of the most commons reasons are:
9-14 demerit points could result in licence suspension
15 demerit points - Licence suspension for 30 days.
Failing to respond to a traffic ticket
Allowing a lapse in insurance coverage
The Provincial Offences Act requires a person charged to respond within 15 days of being served with the traffic ticket. Any time beyond that and you may be convicted without a hearing as being deemed not to dispute the charge on your traffic violation ticket. Consultations with one of our representatives can be done during or outside of normal business hours. You’re busy and we get that. We’ll schedule a time most convenient for you so you can get the answers you need right away.
If a fine is not paid within the time period provided by the court, additional costs are imposed and the amount may be forwarded to a collection agency or a request may be made by the court to the Ministry of Transportation to have your licence suspended. If, after a licence is suspended the fine is paid, an additional fee is payable to the Ministry of Transportation to reinstate the licence. Before this happens, call one of our Boada Legal Services representatives to discuss your matter.
